Basically, a lower storey of a building represents the unconscious; an upper storey, consciousness. The bottom-most basement might represent the collective unconsciousness (See Also: Introduction, pages41-42; the top storey might symbolize either worthy spiritual attainments or pursuits, or else a regrettable separation of the conscious ego from its roots in the unconscious, or from instincts and intuition.
