Can Dreams Contain ESP? Exploring the Possibility of Foretelling the Future
The possibility that dreams may contain ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) fascinates many people and raises the intriguing question: “Can dreams really foretell the future?” Experience suggests that they can. To some, this may sound like mysticism or fantasy, but for a fortunate few, a dream about the future may indeed catapult them into a realm from “the beyond.” However, there are also logical ways to examine these glimpses of the future. Here are several explanations of how ESP in dreams may occur.
Reason 1: A Non-Mysterious Explanation of ESP in Dreams
In many cases, dreams that seem to relate to the future are actually “best guesses” about a decision or question on your mind. Since the future is built on today’s decisions, one way to interpret ESP in dreams is to see them as reflections of where your current decisions are leading. For example, if you throw a ball down a hill, it’s easy to guess whether it will hit a shrub, bounce on a boulder, or land in a stream. Similarly, your psyche, being aware of all your decisions, makes a best guess about the outcome. This guess is accurate if, and only if, you remain on the same course.
Reason 2: Fate and the Divine Hand
A less common type of ESP dream emerges from the soul or from what can be called the divine hand. This form of ESP dream defies logic, often predicting events that are beyond rational explanation. J.B. Rhine, a modern researcher of paranormal phenomena, recorded a famous example of this: years ago, several children in a Welsh mining village had dreams predicting that their school would collapse under an avalanche. A few days later, the tragic event occurred exactly as foretold in their dreams.
Reason 3: You Pre-Dream Everything of Importance
Virginia Beach’s renowned mystic, Edgar Cayce, suggested that you pre-dream everything of importance that happens in your life. These significant dreams, according to Cayce, are best explained by Shakespeare’s famous line from *Hamlet*: “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” In other words, some aspects of life—and dreams—remain beyond our current understanding.
