See Also: Wood- Since in the past the forest was thought of as a dark place and, therefore, the place of the unconscious, the logger is seen as creating order in an area of chaos. Here, the harshness of nature is transformed into something more refined, as the wood removed is put into the service of people in the form of firewood and building material.
If the wood is not split, cutting down trees may also mean a loss of energy. On the other hand, chopping wood may also be seen as aggressive action against one’s own aliveness and health.
The logger may stand for being wooden and unrefined, resulting in a stupid and dull position or attitude. In the case of a city person, there could be a romantic longing for a simpler life, as in Farmer and Craftsman.
Folklore: Great effort without gain.
