Everything King Midas touches turns to gold. Initially this seems to be a blessing, as he accumulates golden objects of great worth; eventually, however, the gift turns into a curse; he touches food and it turns into an inedible metal, and he touches his daughter, who turns into a golden statue. In a dream, Midas, or a banker counting coins, warns against the dangers of materialism; but he may also indicate that when it comes to seeking spiritual truth, there can be no compromise.
