(1) For a woman, a male heroic figure may represent her animus (See Also: Brother/ Sister, section (4)); or it may be a (romantic) sexual symbol.
(2) The hero may symbolize your conscious ego. Just as in myth the hero ventures into strange lands and wrestles with monsters to take possession of some great treasure, so the conscious ego must venture into the unknown realms of the psyche and face up to, tame and use creatively the forces that lie in the unconscious.
(3) If the hero rescues a maiden, the meaning - for a male dreamer - will probably be that he needs to bring the feminine side of his nature into active collaboration with his masculine side.
See Also: Brother/ Sister, section (4).
(4) If in a man’s dream the hero is assisted by a young woman, the hero may symbolize the conscious ego and the young woman the anima. The lesson will be as in (3) above.
(5) If the hero is accompanied by an older person (or friendly strong animal), that person / animal may represent innate wisdom and power in your unconscious: that which, from within your own psyche, can supply all that your conscious ego needs.

[1]To dream of a hero or heroine is an alert sign about the need to ask others for help in solving certain problems. However, if the dreamer is the hero, it makes clear the image of strength he has before others. Many times, in this dream, the hero represents your conscious part. This goes on an unconscious journey to challenge its powers. Equally, numberless myths and stories tell about how heroes venture to strange lands to find a treasure or rescue a beautiful damsel. These are symbols of the reward you will receive by investigating your most hidden side. For a woman, dreaming of the figure of a man made a hero could be evidence of her masculine side. For a man, finding the princess he was looking for could manifest that, finally, he has found the feminine aspect of his nature.
