Universal Landscape: The foundation of our self-identification.
Dreaming Lens: Was the floor underneath you solid or was it giving way? Was it covered up? What was it made of? Was there damage? If so, what was the cause of the damage? Fire? Water? How solid was your footing on the floor in your dream?
Personal Focus: Buildings in dreams represent our different perceptions of consciousness. Houses, especially, connect to our sense of self. As such, the floor represents the foundation on which we stand as individuals. The quality and integrity of the floor in your dream informs how grounded you currently feel.
A solid floor with structural integrity points to solidity of identity. Any type of erosion indicates there is change afoot. If there is fire present, the change is swift and transformational. If water is the culprit, there is an emotional shift occurring. If the floor in your dream is in any sort of decay, it might connect to festering issues that are forcing changes within you of which you have been previously unconscious. The discovery of the decay is akin to a new level of consciousness on the horizon.
If the floor is carpeted, there may be a desire to hide what is underneath. The newer the carpet, the more recent the attempt to gloss over what is below. A new carpet is a sign of abundance, but at what cost? Abundance that is created by covering over older issues may be superficial and, therefore, inauthentic. An old or outdated carpet may point to very old methods of hiding. A glass bottom or see-through floor indicates an ability to see beneath the current state of things. A slippery surface may be a warning of the dangers inherent in not paying attention to the issues at hand. A dirt floor harkens back to fundamentals and grounded foundation, but may indicate a lack of refinement or finesse.
Buildings other than houses also connect to your sense of self, but may be representing certain parts of your life. For example, a work-related building may indicate who you are in terms of your career. The same interpretation for flooring applies, but you should adjust your view with the interpretation of the environment in the Dreaming Lens. In most cases, the floor is something that becomes most evident when it is changing. If it plays a prominent role in your dream, rest assured there is significant shifting where you tread in your waking life.
